Home Farm

Macheke, Mashonaland East

Some 120 kilometres east of Harare, the waters of the Macheke River wind their way through a lush arable valley. Anyone heading east on the main highway may drive past none-the-wiser. For us at Mushandi this is where you’ll find our Home Farm. Just 6 kilometres off the main arterial road, nestled into the valley right on the riverbank, it’s in a prime position to support high levels of horticultural production.

With an altitude of 1500-metres above sea level, an average diurnal temperature difference of 11 degrees Celsius and in excess of 900 chilling units, it experiences a unique climate that is perfectly suited for berry production.

Having been a working farm for over 21-years now, this established operation has a multitude of resources at its disposal. Onsite you’ll find a large dam with 2.7 million cubes of water that has never once run dry, providing a reliable irrigation source. There is also a sizeable packhouse and cold room facility, refrigerated transport, backup generators, backup irrigation systems and a fertigation system for drip irrigation.

Home Farm has a reliable, dedicated and highly skilled labour pool that has been grown and nurtured over the last two decades. Accustomed to packing and grading for international markets, our workers operate with a skill and efficiency that allows us to compete and dominate on an international level.

The possible crop portfolio at Home Farm is extensive and has successfully produced the following:

  • Strawberries

  • Blueberries

  • Cape Gooseberries

  • Garlic

  • Brassica (cauliflower, broccoli and cabbages)

  • Sweetcorn

  • Commercial maize and seed maize

  • Wheat and Barley
